Free Winzip clones
Many Windows machines have a trial version of Winzip on them. I find the nag screen annoying and keeping it beyond the trial period may be illegal.
Powerarchiver
PowerArchiver, is almost identical to Winzip and used to be freeware. Version 6 was the last free version and I have a copy of the install file here. This version is very good and I doubt you'll need anything more.
Now that the current version is shareware is it legal to get V6.0 for nothing? I believe so as I still have the license that came with it:
***** DISTRIBUTION *****
The SOFTWARE may be freely distributed provided that it is not modified
and the original archive remains intact with all accompanying
files, and provided that no fee is charged (except for any reasonable
fees necessary to cover costs of distribution media).
NB This program was originally called EasyZip, as was at least one other product.

See also infozip.
I used to recommend looking at UltimateZip, which I've never tried. Before I realised it carries yucky adverts unless you cough up money.
